Useful Herbs for Whitening of Teeth

Babul (Acacia arabica)

The importance of babul in whitening of teeth cannot be expressed in words. It is so much important in Ayurveda for this purpose that the ancient Indians used nothing but the twigs of the babul (the other tree used for this is neem) as disposable toothbrushes. The tannin present in babul is effective in increasing the whiteness of teeth.

Banyan (Ficus religiosa)

The aerial roots of the banyan can also be used as disposable toothbrushes. The banyan roots have astringent properties, which not only make the teeth whiter, but also make the teeth and gums healthier.

Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum)

The leaves of the holy basil are dried in the sun and powdered and used for brushing teeth. The leaves help in maintaining dental hygiene and make the teeth whiter. Apart from the whitening properties, holy basil is also used for protection from problems such as pyorrhea (i.e. bleeding of gums).

Margosa (Azadirachtha indica)

The neem tree, or the margosa, is a traditional remedy for having white healthy teeth. Neem twigs are used by several Indians even today as toothbrushes. Neem oils contain astringent and antiseptic properties to fight bad breath, kill microorganisms accumulated on the teeth and to combat dental caries and cavities.

This was a pertinent post. Use herbs to whiten teeth. Rub walnut tree bark on your teeth. You can also grind dried bay leaves into a powder and then add dried orange peels. Add water to the mixture and use as a paste. Wood ash and water is another popular paste.

This is a eco-friendly slash healthy article. Everybody yearns on how to project a good smile and this is a good alternative for toothpaste. Now I came up in a thought that this might be the reason why some tribal groups have good set of white teeth. See? :D

Dear Mdm/Miss.
"Dayak" is a term for "tribal groups." This website is for tribal people. What do you intend to contribute to this website ie to the tribal groups other than teeth whitening?

For that matter what is Dentists Rosewille proposed role to/among the tribal group, ie the Dayaks?

Thank you.

Herbal ways of cleaning teeth

Oral hygiene is extremely important. It is not only bad manners to have unclean teeth and bad breath, it is also unhealthy. However, to get a clean mouth you do not have to depend upon chemically made tooth pastes, which prove to be exceptionally strong and abrasive at times. There are several herbal remedies you can avail to.

Mint is a very active ingredient in almost every mouth wash and tooth paste available. However, the leaves of this plant can also be used in its natural form as a mouth refresher. To make a natural mint tooth paste, mash mint leaves adequately and then add sea salt in it. Use this mixture to clean your teeth with the help of your index finger or a moist tooth brush. You can also make a mint mouthwash by boiling good amount of mint leaves with sea salt and ginger. This mouth freshener leaves a refreshing minty taste in your mouth and helps stop bad breathe.

Lemon is another natural item which can be used to make a tooth paste. For that matter, dry some lemons in the sun, till there skins harden. Once dried, take off there rinds. Churn these rinds in a blender, till they become dust. Add lavish amounts of sea salt and cinnamon in this lemon powder and mix the concoction vigorously.

Clove can also make a very effective mouth cleaner. It is known to be a natural analgesic and antiseptic, which helps fight against tooth decay, aches and gum problems. You can make a clove mouth wash by boiling water (according to the quantity you require) in a pan and once the water has reached its boiling point adding good number of cloves in it. Take the pan off from the gas and cover it with a cap. After a while, when the water cools off, you can use the liquid as a mouth wash.

I always adore the tribal groups because they do maintain the good set of white teeth though they are using other alternatives for toothpaste.

I've used Babul before for whitening my teeth and it works really well. Many of these herbs work for killing germs and preventing cavities. But sometimes alternatives have less to do with the ingredients and more with the texture of the ingredient. For instance, the mention of wood ash. I think wood ash is used because of it's abrasive qualities in scrubbing the teeth clean whereas the herbs originally mentioned have actual working properties to keep the teeth clean and make them white.
